MCA disciplinary board recommends Soi Lek to be sacked

KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA’s disciplinary board has recommended that deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek be sacked from the party for tarnishing its image.

Revealing this on Wednesday night, Dr Chua said the recommendation did not come as a surprise.

“As a loyal party man, I have to abide by the decision of the disciplinary board and the presidential council,” he told reporters at Wisma MCA.

He had earlier attended the presidential council meeting but left midway.

The presidential council meeting is still going on.

Asked whether he would appeal against the decision, Dr Chua said he would consider doing that when the time came.

Asked if he would join another party, Dr Chua said 'no'.

On Aug 4, the MCA discipinary board had met following a complaint by Simpang Renggam MCA division chairman Eng Cheng Guan over a sex DVD involving Dr Chua.

The board went on with the inquiry despite Eng withdrawing the complaint because the party’s presidential council had adopted the complaint.

The board members were former party secretary-general Ng Cheng Kiat, Datuk Jimmy Low Boon Hong, Datuk Ng Soon Por, Lai Kuan Fook and Ng Chih Siang.

In late 2007, copies of DVDs were circulated in Johor, believed to be of a secret recording of Dr Chua and a woman engaging in sex.

The woman was allegedly one of his personal friends.

On Jan 1, 2008, Dr Chua admitted that he was the man featured in the sex DVD and resigned from all government and party posts.

He, however, won the MCA deputy president’s post in the party elections last October.

In May this year, he was appointed the Barisan Nasional’s co-ordinating committee chairman by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
