Irda CEO quits, new CEO appointed
JOHOR BARU: The Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Irda) board of directors has accepted the resignation of chief executive officer Harun Johari and appointed Ismail Ibrahim as his replacement.
Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman announced that Ismail, who is the director of the National Physical Planning division of the Rural and Urban Planning Department, would be assuming the post next January.
“We reached the decision during the board of directors’ meeting in Putrajaya last week.
“The board was unanimous in its decision to appoint Ismail as he was one of the individuals responsible for the formation of Irda,” he told a press conference after launching the closing ceremony of the Komuniti Bestari Convention here on Tuesday.
Abdul Ghani, who is Irda co-chairman, refused to comment when asked on the reasons for Harun’s resignation.
He said that Harun would still perform his duties as CEO until the end of the year.
Harun becomes the second CEO to quit Irda since it was set up in November 2006, following the footsteps of Datuk Ikmal Hijaz.
He was the Irda executive director from Dec 13 2008 before becoming CEO in March this year.
Harun was also the Port of Tanjung Pelepas CEO since Oct 2005 before joining Irda.
